Then I sailed to Kiel, crashed on entering the harbor (fortunately I had been making periodic saves, even with the risk of save corruption that nobody has been able to adequately explain to me), and eventually docked there to end the patrol. Yeah, I did the first patrol in late August/early september, which is a decent little tutorial because there isn't really much that will hurt you (not nothing, but not nearly as much as later on). Plus, I seem to have it happen most often in the sub pen, which is not on the boat and thus doesn't have the same camera options anyway. The only way to hopefully fix it is to reload the save and eventually that works. I have no external cameras, nor camera shortcuts. In SH3/4 you'd just hit one of the different views (since the boat didn't have free walking like SH5). It's easy to fix.when you have camera shortcuts turned on and external views and whatnot, since if you switch to one of them it fixes the camera. The worst part about that error message is, it's just saying that the camera (viewpoint) is outside of the playable/renderable space. What did the trick for me was to install a version of the Uplay installer someone had uploaded to a Steam "Guide" page, I'll see if I can find that. Even now, the damn auto-connect to the Uplay servers from the vanilla Steam copy (which is necessary to complete first time set up of the game) did not work right for me. Note: in the past it was apparently a real hassle to try to get that mod to work with the Steam version of the game. Ubisoft should give those guys who made all those mods and the compilation a cut! I would've never bought the game had I not seen some pretty compelling info about the mod and yeah, that mod makes that game "worth it." Especially at the $10 it is now being sold for on Steam. What I can say is: With the Wolves of Steel mod installed it is FANTASTIC! I don't know for sure because I didn't play it much vanilla. Apparently at release it was a nightmare and even now the vanilla game is probably fairly lacking. Radio Paris French Music Full Version 1.This game has suffered a lot of bad press probably deservedly so. Go check on (and donate, though not obliged), in particular this thread, by THEBERBSTER, which tells you everything you might want to know: You can go a bit farther than me in terms of realism (play with TDW real navigation) but then it-s impossible with the Steam version (need to use an incompatible TDW patcher.) SH4 remains IMHO the historically richest and most dynamic and varied campaign there is (TMO, OM, etc.), but SH5 - modded with Open Horizons and more - is a significantly improved and immersive experience, with even more realism as a simulation if you want. There are fantastic modders out there (DarkWraight, Sober, and many others) who transform the somehow unfinished stock version into an amazing subsimmer with big advantages over SH4 (graphics, crew management, overall immersion). I wanted to play with the most realistic (physics, historical accuracy, manual targeting) and graphically cool mods. Longtime SH4 player I have spent many MANY hours on SUBSIM finding a satisfying modlist that didnt CTD too often. SH5 is simply great (as long as you mod it).
